What's Great About Organic Food?

You may have already read from magazines or heard from health enthusiasts the word "organic". But what is it really? Organic actually means "living" and organic food means that it was grown naturally without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. There are no unnatural method used to grow an organic fruit or vegetables such as antibiotics, preservatives, dyes and chemical coatings neither it is genetically engineered. In other words, organic is nothing else but pure, natural food.

Have you thought of the food that you and your family are eating everyday? Think of the apples, pears and even spinach that you are buying from supermarkets. They are actually full of chemicals and sprayed on with pesticides. Most conventionally produced food comes from production systems that rely on a cocktail of up to 350 different chemicals.Washing with water alone will not remove all the chemicals in them. The bad thing about that is we are eating this food along with the chemicals in them. Did you know that these chemicals are actually toxins? Toxins are the major  causes of diseases in the body which includes Attention Deficit Syndrome (ADS), allergies, digestion and even Alzheimers disease and cancer.

Before I proceed, I would like to encourage you to bookmark this page so you can review it at a later time.

So it is really recommended that you eat only organic food. However, since it is quite difficult to find organic stores in our community and they are quite expensive, I would suggest one thing: wash the vegetable and fruits with either a pure castille soap or any vegetable/fruit-based soap.
I am going to recommend some products here. I would like to clarify that I am not getting anything in recommending these products. It's just that I am a health enthusiast myself and wants the best for my family, I am on the lookout for the  products that are beneficial for my family and I would like to share what I am personally buying.

Here is an example of a vegetable/fruit soap which is purely vegetable-based. (Picture at the bottom) It is made up of organic Aloe Vera and essential oils.

organic soapThere are no artificial chemicals in it which makes it really great for washing non-organic produced. Just soak fruits and vegetables for 30 seconds, and it will remove a maximum of 100 contaminants in it.

  • Moreover, I would like to share some products here that are really good for our health.Organic Oats, especially the Steel cut (picture at the right) are really good  for your health. There are two wonderful things about this Red Mill steel cut oats: 1) It is made out of steel cut oats which means that they have gone through less processing and it is full of nutritional value and are high in B vitamins, calcium, protein and fiber while low in salt and unsaturated fat. 2) This brand is whole grain. A grain is said to be"whole" when the entire grain seed is retained: the bran, germ and the endosperm. The bran and germ components are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and healthy fats. These are the parts removed in the refining process, leaving behind the energy-dense but nutrient-poor endosperm portion of the grain. So when you buy, please check that it says "whole grain" to make sure that it contains all the nutrition that our body needs.
    organic flaxseed
    • Organic Flax seed (picture at the right) is considered the modern miracle food. In many studies, adding flax seeds in your diet will lower total cholesterol as well as LDL or bad cholesterol levels. I like to put it in my oatmeal. It has a distinct nutty flavor.
Flax seed is rich in Lignant which is an antioxidant - meaning it  prevents or slows down the oxidative damage to our body which will minimize the risk of infection, heart diseases and cancer. I would suggest buying ground flax seed because it is more easily absorbed by the body.

      organic chocolate
    • Organic chocolate (picture at the right) contains a large number of antioxidants (almost 8 times than those found in strawberries).Dark chocolate is good for your heart. A small bar of it everyday can help keep your heart and cardiovascular system running well. It lowers bad cholesterol as well as blood pressure. The bad thing about chocolate, generally is the high level of sugar in it. However, in dark chocolate, there is less sugar which makes it a better option than milk chocolates.
